School Has Started!

Thank you for helping us make our Open House a success this year! It was a fun time for all!

Traffic flow for student drop off/pick up will be different this year. The front parking lot is only for staff and bus traffic. Parents should enter at the northernmost entrance to the school ( look for the big red, yellow, and black sign). Students are to be dropped off at the sidewalk. This area will be indicated by a sign reading: Student drop off/pick up. Please do not pull up to the front doors to drop off students. We are hoping this measure will relieve at least some of the traffic congestion we have had in previous years. Please note: The building opens at 7:30 AM. Some staff arrive before this time. They are preparing for the school day. They are not contracted to supervise children before 7:30 AM.

We are working to have the north parking lot graveled and marked for parking by mid-September. We had to order the parking space markers, and they may take awhile to get here.

North Wood failed to meet Annual Yearly Progress in Communication Arts and Math this year. This is the fourth year the district has fallen short on AYP. As a result, the district is in Level 3 School Improvement. Letters explaining this status, the school's plan for addressing student achievement, and the availability of SES tutoring were mailed out August 3rd. If you did not receive a letter or have questions, please contact the school.

Please note: Students are not to bring cell phones or other electronic devices to school. First offense =  1 day ISS, second offense = 1 day OSS.

We are working hard to make this school year a productive one for all. Teachers have been asked to make phone calls home regarding lack of homework and behaviors that impede the learning process. Research shows that when teachers and parents work together, children perform better in school, so we ask that you not regard our calls as hinderances, but rather as opportunities to help us help your child(ren).
